Columbia County announced Monday that the planned 90-hour road closure of Lewiston Road has been postponed for a second time.

The closure, taking place on Lewiston Road and I-20 Exit 190, was originally scheduled for Jan. 18-22, but last week was postponed to Jan. 25-29.

However, due to recent weather conditions, county officials said the weekend of Jan. 25 is "not conducive to the work that needs to be accomplished," and announced the work would be postponed again. It is now scheduled to occur Feb. 8-12.

Columbia County and ER Snell will have staff monitoring and managing traffic conditions at and along the detour route as necessary, according to the release.

The closure is required to construct the remaining portions of the diverging diamond interchange that cannot be done while traffic is crossing the bridge or using the ramps, according to the release. The work includes realignments of lanes, pouring curb and gutter, pouring concrete islands, placing pavement markings and reconfiguring signal equipment.

Weather depending, it is expected that the ramps will reopen to traffic on Feb. 12 by 6 a.m., according to the release.
