Senior Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Craig announced last week he is retiring at the end of the year.

In a statement, Craig said he plans on completing his term, which ends on Dec. 31, but will not be running for re-election.

Craig served as district attorney and a Superior Court judge for Burke, Richmond and Columbia counties for more than 30 years.

"My experiences during those years, and those of my wife and family, reinforced daily the realization that those who call the CSRA 'home' are deeply committed to one another and to building community for future generations," Craig wrote in the statement. "As a family, we thank God for the many blessings of having been born and raised in Augusta; for the calling to public service' and for the generosity of spirit shown to us by everyone that we have the honor of calling our friends and fellow citizens."

It will be up to voters in Richmond and Burke counties to select a new Superior Court judge to replace Craig.
