How much snow in Bucks County? And how much is on the way this week as temperatures drop

Bucks County residents, particularly those in the lower and central part of of the county, received several inches of snow, and according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, more snow is expected at the end of the week.

So far, these are the reported snowfall totals in Bucks County recorded by the weather service:

  • Langhorne: 2.5 inches.

  • Levittown: 2.5 inches.

  • Hilltown: 1.5 inches.

  • Northampton: 2.3 inches.

  • Souderton: 2 inches.

  • Warminster: 2 inches.

The weather service said the last measurable snowfall in Bucks County occurred on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Before then, Bucks County experienced a drought of snow, as the National Centers for Environmental Information noted that 22.8 inches of snow fell in Bucks County on Feb. 2, 2021.

And Bucks County residents of a certain age may recall the 1983 storm which dropped 32 inches of snow on Doylestown.

More snow, freezing temperatures in Bucks County weather forecast

The weather service expects snow and freezing rain to linger Tuesday, with winds gusting at 25 mph.

Tuesday's high of 33 may the warmest it gets all week in Bucks County.

Temperatures will barely reach 25 degrees on Wednesday, but it will at least be sunny, with no chances of precipitation.

The threat of snow returns on Thursday afternoon. Otherwise, it will be cloudy throughout the day on Thursday, with temperatures not expected to surpass 33 degrees.

If any snow falls on Friday, the weather service expects it to occur before 1 p.m. The weather service expects the near-freezing streak to continue on Friday, when temperatures should be around 32 degrees.

"We are watching the potential for another round of snow Friday afternoon into Friday evening," said Eric Hoelich, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, who added that details of the coming storm will come into focus over the next day or two. "We expect a coastal storm to slide off to the northeast, and since there will be plenty of cold air available, this should be an all-snow event.

"It will start around Friday midmorning and continue into Friday night."

Snows impacts road travel in Bucks; school programming altered

The Doylestown Township Police Department pushed out an alert Tuesday morning that Routes 202, 313 and 611 corridors are mainly wet with minimal issues. Doylestown police also warned of some snow-covered roads.

The Pennridge School District postponed its curriculum, policy and personnel committee meetings until Wednesday, Jan. 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at 1200 N. Fifth Street, in Perkasie.

An update on whether Bristol Township School District will be cancelling Tuesday night's school board meeting is expected later this afternoon, according to the district's website.

All school districts in the county closed their buildings but some held classes virtually.

Bucks County declares Code Blue, activates three shelters

Bucks County administration issued a Code Blue declaration due to the snow and string of near-freezing temperatures expected this week.

The declaration automatically opens three community shelters. They are located at:

  • Upper Bucks: Quakertown Masonic Lodge, first floor,  501 W. Broad Street, Quakertown.

  • Central Bucks: Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5194 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Buckingham.

  • Lower Bucks: Woodside Church, 1667 Edgewood Road, Lower Makefield.

The shelters will remain open nightly through Sunday, Jan. 21.

According to the alert on the county's website, a Code Blue declaration occurs when temperatures are forecast to drop below 20 degrees for two or more consecutive days.

A Code Blue may be called amid higher temperatures, as consideration is also given to wind chill, precipitation and other circumstances.
