Sure, more than 60% of Americans watched the Super Bowl last year, but that doesn't mean you have to watch Super Bowl LVIII this year.

Since the Patriots didn't make the cut, maybe you don't care about watching the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs play. Possibly, you aren't interested in seeing Taylor Swift show up to root for the Chiefs' Travis Kelce, or Olivia Culpo cheering on her fiance, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. Perhaps you aren't looking forward to hearing Usher perform at the halftime show, or you don't really care about the commercials. Or, you just don't like football. That's fine. No judgment here.

In fact, we've got five alternatives for things to do instead of watching Super Bowl 58 on Sunday, Feb. 11, when you can take advantage of fewer people being out and about.

Check out some art at Lumina

If you haven't already seen it yet, the Prismatica public art installation at Providence's 195 District Park as part of Lumina is a must-see. And, the display is only up until Tuesday, Feb. 20, so if you haven't seen it by Super Bowl Sunday, the clock is ticking.

Prismatica is a bunch of colorful light panels, set up in a pattern that their creator, Quartier des Spectacles International, describes as a "modern ice palace." These 25 "towering prisms" light up in vivid colors and reflect a rainbow of colors back at you, depending on where you are standing. The 6-foot panels rotate and chime, glowing both during the daytime and at night. Prismatica should be beautiful and not that crowded during the big game.

Why watch someone else play a game when you could be playing one yourself? With more than half of all Americans expected to be watching the Super Bowl, this could be a good time to check out the new Level99 at the Providence Place mall.

“We’re really about getting you off your couch, off your phone, to do something real with real people again in real life,” founder and CEO Matt DuPlessie said.

There are more than 50 games to play that test your physical, mental and communication skills, and there's a restaurant and bar as well.

Go see 'La Broa' (Broad Street)' and then grab dinner in the city

Technically, we're suggesting an activity that takes place well before the 6:30 p.m. Super Bowl kickoff, but if you get dinner afterward you can stretch it out to miss most of the game. Go see the 2 p.m. matinee performance of “La Broa’ (Broad Street),” at Trinity Repertory Company, 201 Washington St. in Providence. The show is a love letter to Providence's Broad Street and the Latino culture that has thrived there.

"It’s about how a community comes together when people have their backs against the wall,” said actor Rudy Cabrera.

You don't have to leave the house. You could stay at home and watch anything else on television or streaming. But, if you want to watch something with the same spirit as the big game, consider the Puppy Bowl. In its 20th year, it's the biggest ever, with 131 dogs from 73 shelters across 36 states and territories. The show starts at 2 p.m. on Animal Planet.
