The Mooreland Volunteer Fire Department has released the names of two firefighters injured Saturday while battling fast-moving flames in western Oklahoma.

Firefighters Jared Brittain and Max Clark sustained burns when their firetruck was overrun by flames from a large wildfire in southern Woodward County that prompted evacuations near Sharon.

Clark has a burn on his left arm and is expected to be released from the hospital today. Brittain has burns on both arms, head and face area that are more substantial and will take time and medical treatments to heal, the department announced Sunday.

The state has requested funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help reimburse local governments, volunteer fire departments and other first responders for costs associated with fighting several fires this weekend.

The state Emergency Operations Center — which was activated — received eight fire reports from six counties.

An Oklahoma Forestry Services fire suppression group was on scene to provide firefighting support and coordination.

Forestry aircraft provided additional assistance along with County Wildfire Task Forces from Woodward, Ellis, Dewey, Garfield, Grant and Major counties.

Evacuation shelters were opened at the Woodward Pioneer Room, 1209 Ninth Street in Woodward, and at Faith United Methodist Church, 1402 Texas Ave. in Woodward

The Department of Emergency Management is asking residents impacted by the fires to report damage to their property at damage.ok.gov.
