Peoria road conditions, closings: Snowy weather hinders central Illinois travel Jan 10

The National Weather Service predicted plenty of snow would fall Tuesday near Peoria and Mother nature did not disappoint.

Here's a look at Wednesday's road conditions and closures around the Peoria area and IDOT roads:

Peoria, Ill. road conditions for Wednesday Jan. 10, 2024

According to the NWS road conditions monitor, the majority of Peoria, Tazewell and Fulton county roads are partly covered with ice or snow. It's much of the same as you head east toward Woodford and Marshall counties.

As you move northwest into Stark and Bureau counties and west into McDonough County, roads are currently mostly covered with ice or snow. Traveling through Knox County could be difficult, as roads are considered to be covered by ice or snow.

IDOT road conditions in Peoria, Ill. Jan. 10, 2024

Illinois Department of Transportation Districts 4 and 5 in the Peoria area are currently all clear. In fact, all districts are currently clear of road closures, but three bridges remain closed. They are:

IDOT road conditions − Bridge Closures

  • Bureau County: Red Covered Bridge-CR 1950 E, 1/2 mile north of IL-26.

  • LaSalle County: US-34 Bridge over Little Indian Creek.

  • Will County: Brandon Road Bridge over the Des Plaines River is closed.

How much snow did Peoria, central Illinois get?

According to NWS, Peoria saw as much as 6.7 inches of snowfall over the last 24 hours. Farmington had 6 inches, Knoxville reported 7 inches and Cambridge received 9 inches of snow.

Places like Metamora, Princeville and Washington saw around 5 inches of snow, while 3 inches fell near Germantown Hills and Roanoke. Morton saw around 2 inches of snow.

Illinois weather conditions near Peoria

According to NWS in Lincoln, Ill., Wednesday, Jan 10 will see west winds between 10 to 13 mph, including wind gusts up to 22 mph. Expect mostly cloudy skies with temperature highs around 32 degrees.

Later tonight, there's a 30% chance of snow as wind gusts increase to a potential 32 mph with south winds of 13 to 17 mph, becoming west winds after midnight. Expect a low temperature around 20 degrees overnight.
