The usually calm, cobbled streets of Pamplona, Spain, will this week be overrun by the sound of charging bulls.
It’s all part of a tradition known as ‘Running of the Bulls’, which sees thousands of participants attempting to run alongside the bounding animals.
Held annually in the city of Pamplona, situated in northern Spain, the Running of the Bulls takes place during the Fiesta de San Fermin, a festival honoring the city’s first bishop patron saint, Saint Fermin.
While the eight-day occasion boasts a whole host of festivities, it is best known for its bull running event, made famous in Ernest Hemmingway’s 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises.
Dating back hundreds of years, today the Running of the Bull attracts thousands of locals and tourists every summer. The Running of the Bulls takes place during the Fiesta de San Fermin from July 6-July 14.
