Port Chester man charged with attempted murder of off-duty NYPD cop in Yonkers shooting

A Port Chester man was indicted Thursday for the attempted murder of an off-duty NYPD officer in a Yonkers shooting in November.

Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah said Bryan Martinez, 30, of Port Chester was charged with second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly fired 13 rounds at the off-duty officer.

Police said Martinez allegedly used a 9mm pistol to shoot approximately 13 rounds at the 27-year-old victim while he was sitting in his vehicle in traffic near the Saw Mill River Parkway and Tompkins Avenue in Yonkers on Nov. 14 around 11:23 a.m. The victim then drove himself to St. John's Hospital in Yonkers, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Police said the attack was targeted and had to do with a personal dispute. Martinez and the victim knew each other as acquaintances through family members.

As the search for the suspect continued, nearby Hastings-On-Hudson schools went under lockdown from 11:45 a.m. until around 12:30 p.m.

Martinez was arrested in Port Chester on Nov. 16 after Port Chester police received reports of Martinez's vehicle in the village. Schools in Port Chester also went under lockdown for safety precautions during dismissal.

Martinez was also charged with first-degree and second-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies. Martinez's next court date is Feb. 8.
