Preliminary autopsy results indicate Dover father shot wife, daughter and himself

DOVER A local man killed his wife and daughter last week before killing himself, according to preliminary autopsy results.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's preliminary autopsy results find that the Dec. 28 deaths of Teena Kamal, 54, and her daughter, Arianna Kamal, 18, were each homicides by gunshot, according to a press release from the Norfolk District Attorney's Office.

Rakesh Kamal, Teena Kamal's husband and Arianna Kamal's father, then "died by gunshot wound consistent with being self-inflicted," according to the release.

A final autopsy report has not been completed but should be in coming weeks, the DA said.

Forensic and ballistics testing of a firearm found near Rakesh Kamal's body have not been completed. The handgun, a .40-caliber Glock 22, is not registered to Kamal, who did not have firearms permit, according to the release.

Massachusetts State Police have reached out to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help determine the origin of the gun, the DA said.

Authorities said the bodies of the Kamal family were discovered about 7:24 p.m. last Thursday inside their 8 Wilson's Way home, after a family member stopped by because they hadn't heard from the family in "a while."

Teena Kamal served on the regional board of directors for the Massachusetts chapter of the American Red Cross.

Arianna Kamal, a graduate of Milton Academy, was a student at Middlebury College in Vermont.

Last week, at a press conference, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said the deaths were further proof that domestic violence occurs at every economic class.

"This is an event to remember the domestic violence crisis crosses all economic and social classes," he said at the time. "For anyone, especially around the holidays, if you feel unsafe in a relationship, I want to remind people that there is help out there, safety planning is available and can talk through your specific situation. This is very unfortunate, and our heart goes out to the entire Kamal family."

The DA's Office said the case remains under investigation.
