Arellana Williamson is the Pueblo Chieftain's Student of the Week

Arellana Williamson, a Pueblo Central High School senior, has been named the Pueblo Chieftain's Student of the Week.

More than 23,000 votes were cast in this week's poll, with more than 13,000 of those cast for Williamson.

Williamson is a 4.14 GPA student, active community volunteer and four-sport athlete. The Central High School senior has volunteered for Dream Weavers of Southern Colorado, local science fairs, PAWS for Life and Tom and Louie's Cupboard. She is the current vice president of her school's National Honors Society.

Sports that Williamson has competed in include basketball, cheerleading, softball and tennis. She also has participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, GEAR UP, Girls' Cabinet, Newman Club and Student Council.

Williamson was voted Student of the Week from a group of four nominees. All four high-achieving students have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom. Here are the other nominees.

Brendan Gray, Rye High School

Brendan Gray is a proven leader with strong values, a 4.17 GPA and aspirations to work in aerospace engineering. The Rye High School senior has served as the school's student body president, National Honors Society treasurer and varsity football captain. Gray also has competed in basketball and track for the Thunderbolts.

Elijah Martinez, Dutch Clark Digital Online at Paragon

Despite working two jobs, Elijah Martinez is poised to graduate from Dutch Clark Digital Online at Paragon as a junior. He also is known to motivate his fellow students, telling them to "Push through. It's not as hard or as much work as you think. If you just put your mind to it, you can finish anything you start," according to a nomination from his school.

Lizbeth Serna, Pueblo East High School

Lizbeth Serna, an East High School senior, has excelled as a Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) national competitor and varsity all-American cheerleader. She also has completed two years in the ProStart culinary arts program and participated in work-based learning at the East High School coffee shop.
