Snow totals 3 to 6 inches, speed limits restored on highways, most schools virtual
A storm delivered up to half a foot of snow early Tuesday morning in south-central Pennsylvania, and it snarled traffic during the morning commute.
Three to 6 inches of snow has fallen in both York and Lebanon counties this morning, National Weather Service meteorologist John Bowen said. Cornwall in Lebanon County recorded 7.5 inches.
The snow fell heavily during the early morning commute, leading to reports of crashes and disabled vehicles.
A fatal crash involving a snowmobile has been reported in Newberry Township, said Ted Czech, public information officer for the York County Office of Emergency Management/York County 911. The coroner has been called to the scene.
A section of Interstate 83 in northern York County was shut down in both directions between the Lewisberry Road (Exit 39A) and Fishing Creek Road (Exit 36) interchanges earlier this morning. Commercial vehicles could not move out of the way to allow PennDOT trucks to treat the roads, said David Thompson, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
PennDOT's traffic cameras show that most of the highway is no longer snow covered, and traffic is moving.
The snow is expected to wind down starting around 10:30 a.m., Bowen said.

The county initially had called for a delay.
