Snow, ice impact New Jersey roads, colleges across the state
The 1 to 4 inches of snow that fell Monday night into Tuesday morning created delays, closures and weather-related traffic advisories across New Jersey.
As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, the state Travel Information Services reported at least seven car accidents in the morning including a jack-knifed tractor trailer crash on I-78. All westbound lanes around exit 7 were closed down.
The westbound lanes of the Holland Tunnel also remains closed as authorities are working on icicle removal. No other road has been closed as of yet, but authorities advise caution as mixed precipitation of snow and rain should continue throughout the day bringing potential for slippery, icy road conditions, said the National Weather Service, Mount Holly.
A speed restriction was set for the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway due to snow. For both roads the speed limit stands at 45 mph. A South Jersey section of the turnpike between Mount Laurel Township and Crosswick has a speed limit of 35 mph, according to the state's Travel Information Services.
Road treatment is in progress on the Atlantic City Expressway. Authorities advise caution. And pedestrians lanes at the Ben Franklin Bridge in Camden will remain closed until further notice.
