When will it snow in Oklahoma? Forecasters expect flakes to fall this week and next

After a somewhat mild winter so far, parts of Oklahoma are expected to see the first snow of the year.

Where will it snow in Oklahoma?

A winter weather advisory is in place for parts of Northern Oklahoma beginning Thursday night and going into Friday morning.

Starting Thursday night, widespread rain is expected across much of the state, according to the National Weather Service in Norman. But later, the rain could be mixed with snow north of the Oklahoma City area.

Snow accumulation is possible near and east of Woodward, Enid and Ponca City, with possible snowfall totals up to 3 inches in the far northern section of the state.

Will OKC see snow?

According to the National Weather Service's predictions, Oklahoma City and its surrounding metro will most likely see rain Thursday night and into the day on Friday, but not snow.

But those hoping for a wintry wonderland in the city won't have to wait long, as a winter storm is possible early next week, Norman meteorologists predict.

The storm system will approach Oklahoma late Monday through early Tuesday, with colder air funneling in behind it.

Blowing snow is possible in Oklahoma City and further north, with the highest chances of snow totals greater than 4 inches occurring in Woodward.
