Stuarts Draft woman convicted of having sex with teenage boy

STAUNTON — A Stuarts Draft woman held in jail for more than a year was convicted Wednesday on two counts of carnal knowledge involving a teenage boy.

Rebeca Fratila Ilies, 32, pleaded no contest to the charges in Staunton Circuit Court.

In a plea agreement, four charges of use of electronic means for child sexual communication and two charges of taking indecent liberties with a child were not prosecuted.

After the boy told a middle school official, a police investigation concerning Fratila Ilies' actions with the teen began in December 2022, the same month she was jailed. According to Staunton Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Joseph Perry, Fratila Ilies had oral sex with the teen and intercourse. Perry said she also sent the boy a nude photo.

Fratila Ilies' attorney, Scott C. Alleman, said his client was suffering a mental health crisis at the time, and said had the case gone to trial he would have presented a temporary insanity defense by involuntary intoxication based on an "extremely strong anti-psychotic medication" she was taking. Alleman said the drug triggered a hypersexual reaction.

"We had experts lined up to testify at trial that this reaction from the drug is not uncommon and that it significantly contributed to the uncharacteristic behavior that resulted in her arrest," Alleman said in an email to The News Leader.

Following her no contest pleas, Fratila Ilies was sentenced to one year and three months in jail. Held since Dec. 10, 2022, she will be credited with time served.

Fratila Ilies remains at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
