Tommy Gonzalez putting Midland on the map

I just read that the city of Midland, TX, a windswept, sulfuric little town with less than a fifth of the population of El Paso, just landed a $169 million, four-star establishment at the heart of its city center.Yeah, it seems former El Paso City Manager Tommy Gonzalez has been busy doing what he does best — accelerating local economies and excelling at his position.

As the city of Midland punches well above its economic weight class and goes for the gold, the same cannot be said of the city of El Paso, with hundreds of thousands more inhabitants. It seems that the combination of skyrocketing energy prices and the foresight of our mayor and City Council — who ran Tommy Gonzalez out of town months ago — has just done wonders for our overall economic well-being.We should all take a moment to thank El Paso city leadership for helping to put Midland, Texas on the map.

Deportation not busing will stop illegal immigration

Congress and President Joe Biden have come up with the brilliant idea of shutting down the border to control illegal immigration. Mexico provides about $80 million a day in trade to El Paso and other border cities. This idea will affect all of them plus maybe the whole U.S.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott thinks by putting razor wire and using the Texas National Guard and DPS he can stop Illegal immigration. The only way to stop illegal immigration is to deport all immigrants back to their country immediately. The U.S. can use military transports to achieve this. This idea is better than busing immigrants all over the U.S.

Biden has failed in his duty to secure the border

Adam Powell's excellent article on the memorial to 27 fallen Border Patrol agents and one Border Patrol support staff member in the El Paso sector made me sad. These heroes died protecting our country and upholding the Constitution.  But unlike them, President Joe Biden has failed in his duty to secure the border and uphold the Constitution.  For three years now, Biden has allowed millions of illegal immigrants and tons of drugs, including deadly fentanyl, to enter our country from the southern border. This is because his administration purposely tied the hands of Border Patrol agents.

It would have been nice if President Biden had been present for the dedication of this beautiful memorial. It would have shown that Biden cared about the Border Patrol. But instead, we just hear crickets.Paul Hoylen
