The Whitnall School Board has selected an interim superintendent to replace outgoing superintendent Lisa Olson.

The board announced in a news release that it named Ed Brzinski to the interim superintendent role. He started Jan. 16. His tenure is expected to run until June 30.

The district has established a timeline for a search for a permanent replacement, according to school board President Jason Craig. The district hopes to have a new superintendent in place by July 1.

Olson announced her retirement in November. She said at the time she would end her contract early and retire in January. Olson ends her time as superintendent Jan. 19, and the board is beginning to search for a permanent superintendent, the news release said.

“Mr. Brzinski is an experienced superintendent who will guide our district as we transition toward the future.” said Craig in the news release.  “The Board values Mr. Brzinski’s many years of experience and his positive, collaborative outlook towards working with staff, students, parents and community members. We believe his experience will help the district maintain stability through our ongoing continuous improvement efforts, budgeting and planning for the 2024-2025 school year, and exploration of facilities improvements.”

In an interview, Brzinski said, "It's exciting to have a new opportunity to help. I enjoy working with the communities and helping them to develop and grow. For me, I've been retired for 18 months and I felt like this would be a great challenge to try something new, something a little bit different but yet still in my wheelhouse. It's a good opportunity," Brzinski said.

Before Whitnall, Brzinski served as superintendent at the Waterford Graded School District Joint 1 and the Lake Geneva Joint 4 School District. Brzinski also was a Spanish teacher for 21 years in Lake Geneva, the release said.
