The biggest moments you missed at the 81st Golden Globes

The race to March's Academy Awards kicked into a new gear Sunday with the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, which honored the best of television and cinema.

Who won the night? Christopher Nolan's atomic bomb biopic "Oppenheimer" nabbed five honors including best drama, director, lead drama actor for Cillian Murphy and supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.

  • Though "Barbie" entered the evening with nominations in nine categories, the summer hit took home just two wins at the Globes. Greta Gerwig's cultural phenomenon was upended by "Poor Things," which took home best comedy and lead comedy actress for Emma Stone.

  • The Globes honored several first-time winners, including the history-making Lily Gladstone, who became the first Indigenous person to win the award for best actress in a drama for "Killers of the Flower Moon."

  • Red carpet recap: "Barbie" stars Margot Robbie, America Ferrera and Issa Rae looked fresh out of Mattel boxes in bright pink, while numerous stars including Florence Pugh, Selena Gomez and Barry Keoghan made fiery statements in bold red, which appeared to be the color of the night.

The trial comes as part of a lawsuit by New York Attorney General Letitia James against the NRA, which accuses LaPierre and other executives of illegally diverting tens of millions of dollars from the NRA and spending organization funds on personal trips, no-show contracts and other questionable expenditures. Three months of the Israel-Hamas war

As the grueling Israel-Hamas conflict hit the three-month mark Sunday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken pushed forward with an urgent Middle East mission amid fears the tinderbox region could explode into a wider war. The visit by Blinken, who was in Jordan and Qatar on Sunday before traveling to Israel this week, came as the Israeli military indicated it may be winding down major combat in northern Gaza. Blinken's trip, his fourth Middle East mission in recent months, comes as developments in Lebanon, northern Israel, the Red Sea and Iraq have ratcheted up fears of a more widespread conflict. What to watch from Congress as lawmakers return from recess

Lawmakers are back in Washington after the holiday break and heading into a chaotic month. They have a short, but daunting to-do list: Congress has less than two weeks to avert a partial government shutdown after kicking the can down the road twice. Along with funding the government, lawmakers continue to negotiate an all-encompassing foreign aid package that provides assistance to key U.S. allies such as Ukraine and Israel. Against the backdrop of those two, time-sensitive issues, House Republicans are continuing their impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Read more
