Cincinnati-area schools closed, delayed due to snow Friday

As snow blankets the regionall Cincinnati Public Schools schools will be closed on Friday.

The University of Cincinnati will be closed from 6 to 10 a.m., the university announced early Friday. Northern Kentucky University is closed for the whole day, according to Fox19.

A winter weather advisory is in effect across the Greater Cincinnati region as 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected through the early part of the weekend.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has declared a Level 1 Snow Emergency for Hamilton County due to conditions caused by ice, or blowing and drifting snow. This declaration includes all county, township, city, and state roadways.

A Level 1 Snow Emergency is designed to advise motorists of hazardous road conditions created by ice, blowing and drifting snow.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, accumulating snow will be likely Thursday evening through Friday night. The winter weather advisory is slated to be in place until 1 a.m. Saturday.

School officials said in a statement that forecasted snow accumulation may make roads dangerous for families and staff to arrive to and from school.

Schools in the state's second-largest district were open Tuesday and Thursday this week, but closed on Wednesday when temperatures dipped to single digits.

Several school districts are closed. Here's a partial list of schools that have announced Friday closings and delays:

  • Lakota Local Schools are closed.

  • Little Miami schools are closed.

  • Boone, Campbell and Kenton county districts in Northern Kentucky schools are closed.

  • Mount Healthy City Schools district is closed and bus service will not be available for Great Oaks students.

  • Mount Notre Dame High School is closed.

  • Sycamore Community Schools is closed. Teams and clubs are advised to connect with their coaches or advisors later for details regarding evening activities.

  • Middletown City School District will have a two-hour delay. Officials will reevaluate in the morning whether or not to cancel school.

  • The Fairfield City School District is closed.

  • Winton Woods City Schools is closed.
