FOND DU LAC — Fond du Lac Public Library's Buechel Branch is back, and patrons are invited to check out the new space.

While the branch reopened Feb. 1 at 1139 E. Johnson St., between GNC and FreshFit Cafe, an open house is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 21, featuring self-guided tours of the new space, photos with library mascot Browser the dog, cupcakes and more, according to a news release from the library.

The branch had closed briefly to move from the west side of the Festival Foods plaza into a more centralized location of the plaza close to stores community members were already visiting, making room for the Froedtert Health clinic being constructed near the former space.

The new location includes a book drop inside the foyer, with 24/7 access to drop off materials, in addition to its previous collection of materials and the children's corner.

The branch first opened in 2011 as FDLPL Express, and was renamed last April in honor of County Executive Allen Buechel, who died in March.

Last year, the Buechel Branch served more than 7,500 community members and circulated about 17,500 items. The branch has about 11,500 books and DVDs in its collection.

Beyond the open house, the Buechel Branch is open 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends. For more information, visit fdlpl.org.
