A former attorney for Donald Trump, Jenna Ellis, pleaded guilty Tuesday to aiding and abetting false statements and writings, per CNN.

Ellis served as the former president’s senior legal adviser from 2019 to 2021 and as a member of his reelection campaign in 2020, PBS reported.

Ellis’ plea deal included five years of probation, $5,000 in restitution by Nov. 23, and a willingness to testify at future hearings and trials when asked. She was also asked to perform 100 hours of community service and write an apology letter to Georgia citizens, according to NBC.

Ellis told the court Tuesday that while she tried to represent her client to the best of her ability, she failed to fact check information other lawyers gave her before presenting it to the media and to legislators in various states.

She said, “In the frenetic pace of attempting to raise challenges to the election in several states, including Georgia, I failed to do my due diligence.”

“If I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post election challenges. I look back on this whole experience with deep remorse.”
