The ex-husband of Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo. was arrested on six criminal charges Tuesday, including assault, following a reported physical altercation between the former couple over the weekend as well as a separate incident involving another relative just over 48 hours earlier.

Jayson Steven Boebert, 43, was booked into jail in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on charges of third-degree assault, harassment, prohibited use of weapons, obstructing a peace officer, disorderly conduct, trespassing and obstruction of a police officer, court papers obtained by USA TODAY show.

A Garfield County Sheriff's Office jail spokesperson told USA TODAY he was released on $2,500 bond the same day he was booked into the facility.

His arrest came after an alleged fight between Boebert and the congresswoman at a restaurant on Saturday in the congresswoman's Colorado district.

The pair divorced last year.

Lauren and Jayson Boebert incident at restaurant

The first incident took place on Saturday at Miner’s Claim restaurant in Silt. The small town is just east of Glenwood Springs about 60 miles northwest of Aspen.

According to Jayson Boebert's arrest affidavit, officers responded to the business after a male called 911 at 7:45 p.m. from the restaurant to report "domestic violence abuse."

Before the call disconnected, court papers show, a second person called 911, said her name was Lauren, and a dispatcher reported they heard her say, "I just touched your nose."

The male caller, the affidavit continues, was heard saying "she punched me in the face."

When officers arrived on scene, charging documents show, they found Lauren Boebert who told them she had had a drink with her ex-husband at their old home before "moving to the Miner's Claim" where they had a conversation about their current partners.

"Things got heated as both parties argued, at one point Lauren admitted to placing her finger on Jayson's nose to end the conversation. Jayson at that point picked up his phone and called 911, stating he wanted to report domestic abuse and hung up," the deputy wrote in the report. "Lauren stated Jayson told her 'Congratulations your name is going to be in the headline.'"

According to the report, Jayson Boebert spoke to police inside the business, where officers said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and told police his ex-wife punched him in the face.

When officers asked him to step outside, they wrote, he refused to leave, said he did not want to speak with officers and began cursing at them. At one point, a restaurant manager also asked him to leave but he again refused.

About 8:25 p.m., he eventually stood up, turned around and reportedly raised his hands, the affidavit continues, so police grabbed his hands and turned him around and told him to walk out the door. According to the affidavit, body camera footage shows Jayson Boebert grab the door frame with his left hands as an officer "physically removes his hand from the door frame."

Once officers escorted him outside, he continued to argue with police and asked them "to investigate his ex-wife for DUI."

"Jayson was asked no less than 8 times to leave the restaurant by law enforcement over an approximate 6-minute period and refused to cooperate with law enforcement while officers were investigating a crime," the affidavit reads. "He also continuously yelled and cursed" inside the restaurant "which was packed with patrons" and continued yelling and cursing at officers and towards his ex-wife outside the restaurant in a public place.

USA TODAY has reached out to Miner's Claim.

Silt police couldn't immediately be reached early Wednesday morning.

Police investigation finds Lauren Boebert didn't punch ex-husband

Police on Wednesday said Jayson's Boebert's allegations Lauren Boebert punched him were "unfounded."

"Officers observed no marks or injury on Jayson Boebert to corroborate he had actually been assaulted," the department released in a statement.

It goes onto say to no witnesses have come forward to provide any statements or video footage to substantiate "any claim made by Jayson Boebert that evening."

It was not immediately known if Jayson Boebert had obtained an attorney and he could not immediately be reached by USA TODAY.

A second incident involving another relative at home

The second incident involving the congresswoman's ex took place early Tuesday at a home just outside town of Salt, another arrest affidavit shows.

According to the document, deputies responded to the home just after 1 a.m. after a relative of Jayson Boebert dialed 911 to report he got angry, threw his phone across the house, pushed him to the ground and shoved his thumb into his his mouth.

"The argument started over laying down to sleep," an officer wrote in that report.

In addition, the report goes onto say Boebert was reportedly intoxicated and armed with a rifle during the incident.

Lauren Boebert: Swapping congressional districts and other controversy

Last month, the lawmaker announced she will not run for reelection in her current congressional seat in Colorado’s 3rd District. Instead, she said, she will run in the state’s 4th District, currently held by Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo.

The weekend incident isn't the first time in recent months the congresswoman's behavior drew national attention.

Last year, she was kicked out of a performance in a Denver theater for many reasons including disruptive behavior and vaping.
