How much will it snow in Nashville, Middle TN? Here is what the National Weather Service is saying

With freezing temperatures settling in for the week ahead, many are left wondering if Nashville and Middle Tennessee will see snow next week. And if so, how much?

The short answer - yes and while how much will fall will vary across the Midstate, potential travel impacts are anticipated.

Early Sunday, the National Weather Service in Nashville upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Tuesday for the potential of widespread snowfall of 2-4 inches of snow across the northwest Midstate.

The heaviest accumulation is expected south of I-40 and along the Cumberland Plateau, with a potential of 3 to 7 inches.

The weather service said starting Sunday, we'll be below freezing temperatures through Thursday, with the coldest temperatures expected Monday and Tuesday night.

Snow will arrive late Sunday and last through Tuesday, the heaviest snow is expected during the day Monday. Any snow that falls will not melt until at least Thursday, the weather service said in a post to X.

Thankfully, according to NWS Nashville meteorologist Corey Mueller, there is currently no "ice or ice rain" in the forecast, indicating that a layer of ice settling on top of the snow is unlikely.
