OnPolitics: Donald Trump's campaign says Ron DeSantis not on the list of candidates for VP

Hey OnPolitics readers! Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign said Thursday that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is not on the former president’s list of potential candidates for vice president.

While Trump hasn't received the Republican nomination yet, that hasn't stopped some from making predictions about his possible running mate. The Trump campaign’s response this week came after reports that DeSantis told supporters that Trump should not play "identity politics" with the running mate slot, presumably a reference to the fact that Trump has female and Black candidates on his vice presidential list, USA TODAY’s David Jackson reported.

❓ Why was DeSantis’ name being suggested for VP? DeSantis' name surfaced in the running mate search during a town hall on Tuesday. Fox News host Laura Ingraham read off a list of names suggested by the audience, including DeSantis, and Trump did not discount any of them.

🔴 What has DeSantis said about being VP? DeSantis has suggested he would never be seriously considered by Trump to be a running mate. The Florida governor for months has also said he simply doesn't want the gig.

🥊 DeSantis and Trump’s feud goes way back: Though the two started off as allies, their relationship took a turn as DeSantis’ 2024 presidential prospects began to rise. Before the 2022 midterm election, Trump unveiled his new nickname for the governor: Ron DeSanctimonious. After DeSantis launched his White House bid, Trump repeatedly thrashed his rival on the campaign trail and in interviews.
