Vehicle, garage door struck by gunfire in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE — Police on Monday investigated a report of shooting activity in which gunfire struck a vehicle and a garage door, a Port St. Lucie police spokesperson said Tuesday.

Police shortly after 11 p.m. Monday went to an address in the 400 block of Southwest Prado Avenue, and found several cartridge casings at the intersection of Southwest Prado Avenue and Southwest Byron Street, said Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, police spokesperson.

The location is just north of Southwest Lakehurst Drive between Southwest Airoso and Southwest Bayshore boulevards.

There were no injuries.

Mesiti said bullet holes were found in a vehicle and garage door of the residence.

Police learned the man at the residence believed he knew who committed the drive-by shooting. The man, who did not wish to cooperate with authorities, reported the person he assumed did the shooting was “crazy,” Mesiti said.

Mesiti said it appears a suspect or suspects arrived in a vehicle, fired several shots toward the man's home and left.

Mesiti said a dark-colored truck is suspected to be involved in the incident.

Those with information are asked to contact police at 772-871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-TIPS.
