Whataburger is working to build its 10th restaurant in Escambia County near Blue Angel

Whataburger has proposed to build a new location in Escambia County off of North Blue Angel Parkway and West U.S. Highway 98 near Sparebox Storage, according to the project’s Information Form filed with Escambia County.

The project's site plan filed with Escambia County shows that developers plan for the free-standing restaurant to be nearly 3,500 square feet with two drive-through lanes and 41 total parking spaces.

Should the project be approved, it’ll be one of 10 Whataburger locations operating across Escambia County.

The development was proposed to Escambia County’s Development Review Committee on Jan. 9. The project is still in its pre-application phase but was reviewed by the Development Review Committee on Wednesday.

The 1.27-acre lot that Whataburger plans to build its new restaurant on is one of four outparcels of a new Publix-anchored shopping plaza that has already broken ground.

Publix bought this parcel last January for approximately $1.01 million, according to the Escambia County Property Appraiser’s records. Prior to Publix’s acquisition, the parcel was last sold in 2007 for $95,900 and assessed to be worth approximately $684,150 in 2022.
