Wichita Falls man accused of Stripes murder to go to trial

The capital murder trial for a man accused of shooting to death convenience store clerk Floyd Kirt during a robbery two years ago is set for Feb. 26 in 30th District Court, according to court documents.

Tajmon Laterrance Robinson, 23, was being held Monday in the Wichita County Detention Center on a $1 million bond, according to online jail records.

Stripes clerk murdered just before Valentine's Day 2022

Robinson is accused of shooting 51-year-old Kirt to death Feb. 12, 2022, while the clerk worked at a Stripes in the 2200 block of Southwest Parkway.

He told police he intended to rob a convenience store to get cash to get out of Wichita Falls, according to allegations in court documents.

A Wichita County grand jury indicted Robinson on a charge of capital murder, according to the indictment filed May 6, 2022.

Robinson has entered a plea of not guilty. He faces up to life in prison if convicted. The prosecution has waived the right to seek the death penalty in his capital murder case.

An admission about the Stripes murder

A Wichita Falls police affidavit for an arrest warrant details the basis for the charge against Robinson.

Police responding to a check welfare call just before 5 a.m. Feb. 12, 2022, found Kirt dead from gunshot wounds, according to the allegations.

Police reviewed video footage from the store that showed a man entering the Stripes, shooting Kirt, taking items and exiting through the back door, according to allegations in court records. A witness identified Robinson.

On Feb. 17, 2022, police found out where Robinson was staying and served a search warrant at a home in the 2000 block of Garfield Street, according to allegations in court documents.

Two residents there told police Robinson had a handgun when he showed up needing a place to stay Feb. 12, according to allegations in court records. Robinson was arrested the night of Feb. 17.

Robinson told police he shot and killed Kirt during the robbery and stole lottery tickets, according to allegations in court documents.
