Winter weather in Oklahoma: Light snowfall in OKC, extremely cold temperatures coming this weekend

After a blizzard hit northwestern Oklahoma on Monday, light snow fell across the OKC metro Tuesday morning and high winds moved into the area.

Here's what we know about today's winter weather and what to expect next.

When could it snow again in Oklahoma?

Rain and snow are possible again Thursday night and into Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Norman.

The Oklahoma City metro, along with portions of central and western Oklahoma, has a 25 to 40% chance of precipitation Thursday night. Light accumulations are expected for now.

Light precipitation is possible again Sunday during a blast of arctic air, which could bring wind chill values between -25 degrees and -10 degrees on Monday.

How many inches of snow did Oklahoma get?

The National Weather Service in Norman said "high winds and blizzardlike conditions" have made it difficult to get accurate snowfall measurements throughout the state. Meteorologists encouraged members of the public to report snowfall amounts for their area.

But according to a national snow depth map, the Oklahoma panhandle received anywhere from 4 to 10 inches of snow. In far northwest Oklahoma, the Woodward area received three inches. The rest of northwestern Oklahoma received between one to three inches of snow, with reports including two inches in Alva and one-and-a-half inches in Enid.

Anywhere from 0.1 to one inches of snow fell in Oklahoma City and much of central and western Oklahoma.

Strong winds, bitter cold in forecast for Oklahoma Tuesday

Western and central Oklahoma were forecasted by the National Weather Service in Norman to experience wind chill values in the single digit and teens Tuesday. Strong winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour were expected to persist throughout the day, with gusts of 45 to 55 miles per hour.

The meteorologists in Norman warned that slick roads could be expected on the morning commute, and a wind advisory was in effect for much of the state Tuesday.

How cold is it in Oklahoma?

According to NWS, some parts of Oklahoma will have single-digit wind chills. In Oklahoma City, the wind chill is 13.

Visibility was low in the midst of blowing snow, with wind gusts in the 50 and 60 miles per hour range in the panhandle.

Wind chill was also reported in the single digits, according to News9.

Extremely cold temperatures coming to OKC this weekend

A brief reprieve of warmer air is expected, with highs in the 50s on Wednesday and Thursday.

That won't last long, as chilling weather moves back into the area Friday and sticks around for the weekend. Oklahoma City will see low temperatures as cold as 10 and 2 degrees on Sunday and Monday, with even colder wind chills.
