Antonio Renteria is running for Lubbock mayor, the candidate announced Monday. He becomes the fourth person to announce entry into the race and is expected to formally launch his campaign Friday afternoon.

Renteria is the founder and CEO of Latinos United for Conservative Action. Renteria has formerly served on the Lubbock Planning and Zoning Commission and the Lubbock County Hospital District (UMC Health System) Board of Managers — a position that he resigned from in 2014.

Renteria offered few details about his platform in the Monday announcement, but the candidate is planning a campaign launch event Friday afternoon at Montelongo's restaurant.

Renteria joins a race that includes two city councilmen and a prominent community activist. Steve Massengale, Mark McBrayer and Adam Hernandez have each previously announced mayoral campaigns. Mayor Tray Payne announced in December last year he would not seek re-election to a two-year term. Payne, a Lubbock attorney, was first elected mayor in 2022.

Lubbock's 2024 municipal elections, which includes the mayor's race and several city council contests, takes place May 4.
