A wild weekend on the Vegas Strip ended with Kansas City's second straight Super Bowl win. And Donald Trump has a busy week in court ahead.

👋Hey hey! Happy Monday. Laura Davis here! Let’s get you caught up on the news.

But first: A next-level tantrum. 😳 Some 49ers fans took their frustration about the last-minute defeat out on their TVs.

A very red Super Bowl

Well, that was fun! The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime Sunday in a Super Bowl unlike any other. It was a memorable night, given Taylor Swift's involvement and the fact that it was in Las Vegas for the first time. Throw in Kansas City winning back-to-back titles – a rare accomplishment – and Patrick Mahomes' late brilliance, and it was a classic. 🏈 Highlights from the game.

For some, the show really started when Usher hit the stage. He took us back in time to old-school rhythm and blues, in what was the most gorgeous, stunning Super Bowl halftime show ever. And he pulled off a neat trick: sensuality and likeability wrapped into a neat, bombastic bow. 🎶 See every Super Bowl 2024 performance, from Reba to Usher.

After the show, it's the after party: Chiefs hit the town in Las Vegas to celebrate – and yes, Swift was there too. 🍾💃

Trump's busy week in court

Whoever is in charge of his schedule probably deserves a raise. Former President Donald Trump has a busy week in at least five courts, with decisions expected on whether he can continue to do business in New York state and whether a federal trial on charges of election interference will be postponed. The variety of hearings reflects the crowded litigation calendar Trump faces as he campaigns to return to the White House as the Republican front-runner. 👉 Here’s a closer look at what Trump’s facing in court this week.

Scores of Palestinians killed in Israeli hostage rescue

In an operation that Gaza officials say claimed the lives of scores of Palestinians, Israeli security forces stormed an apartment in the heart of Rafah on Monday, freeing two hostages and killing their three guards. Officials said Fernando Simon Marman and Louis Har, who had been seized during the Oct. 7 rampage by Hamas-backed militants, were in good condition. Airstrikes that provided cover for the operation killed at least 67 Palestinians, officials said. Israel has pressed its invasion of Gaza into Rafah over the objections of neighboring Egypt, the U.S., U.N. and most global leaders who fear for more than 1 million Palestinians who fled to the southern city from the fighting farther north. 👉 Here's the latest.
